Americana Decor

I recently decided to go with an Americana Decor for my front porch/lawn. I found this flag at our local DG and painted our name on it. I thought it turned out cute and wanted to show-off a little. :> Here is where I hung it and the two little stars thingys I found also.

ARGH!!!

This is a pic of a painting I have been working on for a duck hunter...

I have been working on this painting for friggin' ever and can't seem to complete it! What with four kids, an impossible-to-keep-clean home, the constant nagging of "loved" ones; and the knowing I have of the impatience he must be experiencing wating on my slow ass to actually finish the darned thing! I'm having background issues. I can't come up with one that I like! Not to mention I have yet to be told what is supposed to be written in the banner to serve as a caption for the painting! ARGH!! I'm sorry I just felt like venting a little about my "painter's block"; I'm sure in time it will be okay, but as of right now that seems like a long shot! Thanks for letting me vent!

Untitled

I went to a birthday party,
But I remembered what you said,
You told me not to drink at all,
So I had a Sprite instead,

I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
That I didn't choose to drink and drive,
Though some friends said I should,

I knew I made a healthy choice and,
Your advice to me was right,
As the party finally ended,
And the kids drove out of sight,

I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece,
Never knowing what was coming,
Something I expected least,

Now I'm lying on the pavement,
I can hear the policeman say,
"The kid that caused the wreck was drunk",
His voice seems far away,

My own blood is all around me,
As I try hard not to cry,
I can hear the paramedic say,
"This girl is going to die",

I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high,
Because he chose to drink and drive,
That I would have to die,

So why do people do it,
Knowing that ruins lives?,
But now the pain is cutting into me,
Like a hundred stabbing knives,

Tell my sister not to be afraid,
Tell Daddy to be brave,
And when I go to heaven please put,
"Daddy's Girl" on my grave,

Someone should have taught him,
That it is wrong to drink and drive,
Maybe if his Mom & Dad had,
I'd still be alive,

My breath is getting shorter,
And I'm getting really scared,
These are my final moments,
And I'm so unprepared,

I wish that you could home me Mom,
As I lie here and die,
I wish I could say,
I Love You & Goodbye.

A Mother's Prayer

Lord help me remember when I feel it's a chore,

The time will come when I'll hold her no more,

Asleep on my chest-the blanket refused,

The crib, the pacifier all gone unused,

For infants grow up and leave us behind,

With only memories left to remind us,

Of midnight walking and pre-dawn rocking,

Of soft helpless babies unable to sleep,

So Lord make me patient and keep me awake,

As I cradle this baby and don't let me take,

For granted the moments I spend in the night,

With this baby - Your gift

My joy - My delight.

New Pledge of Alliegence!

This was written by a 15 yr. old school kid in Arizona:
Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed in most public schools anymore because the word 'God' is mentioned.... A kid in Arizona wrote this: NEW School prayer:

Now I sit me down in school,
Where praying is against the rule,
For this great nation under God,
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow,
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's not offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall,
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

Wow! that's about all I can say to this one, I am impressed that a child of 15 could write something so powerful and yet appalled that a child can see all of this and mainstream America has missed it!!

Sweet Hobby

A couple months ago while grocery shopping I came across a box that looked like a fun thing to do with the kids! It was a Candy Making Kit from a company called Wilton's. It turned out to be a lot of fun, and they are the cutest little candies when your done. They are perfect for class parties, snack trays, gift giving, or just for a cute snack for your sweet tooth. Each box comes with 20 lolly pop sticks, 20 bags & ties, 3 mold trays, a paint brush, microwaveable bags, and 4 different colors of candy melts. You can buy more melts and more trays if you'd like. I have made these candies for Halloween, Christmas & am now working on Valentine's Day. Can't wait to see St. Patty's Day molds! It is a simple process too, anyone can be a candy maker! Just place the melts in the bag, microwave for a bit and once they are melted start putting the candy in the molds. Refrigerate for a little while and you're done! I have also melted down chocolate chips and used that as the brown. ((only because I am a chocoholic!)) So sorry you are not here to taste them, they are fabulous!

My latest "Project"

I decided yesterday to let the dust bunnies lie under my couch and the cobwebs to stay in the corners in exchange for something a little more fun! You see, I am constantly thinking of ways to improve my house, make it look nicer, etc. So I get the grand idea to finally paint something on the wall in my 14 month old daughters bedroom. It is a last ditch effort to decorate this child's room, I have hung posters and yada yada in the end they don't stay where I put them and usually result in me picking thumbtacks up off the floor and paper scraps from behind the dresser! But with painting, you can't tear it off! Genius! The only problem is that I am not very skilled at painting with a stencil, the paint usually globs around the edge of the design and I have to wipe it off. So I opted for free handing it. I simply traced an outline of the stencil with pencil onto the wall, then painted it. Here is what I have so far:

This is placed about 3/4 of the way up the wall and centered between the two windows.

& this is the border that will be going around the room. I am a bit unsure yet about this. I was thinking of placing smaller crowns in between the larger ones. But am undecided at the moment.
That's as far as I've gotten. Let me know what you think!

And lastly I'd like to share this pencil sketching of a whitetail deer drinking from a pond in the forest.
These are just a few of the drawings I have done. Let me know what you think of them!

'Twas the night before Christmas he lived all alone,
in a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone,
I had come down the chimney with presents to give,
and to see just who in this home did live,
I looked all about a strange sight I did see,
no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree,
No stocking by mantle just boots filled with sand,
on the wall hung pictures of far distant lands,
With medals and badges, awards of all kinds,
a sober thought came through my mind,
For this house was different it was dark and dreary,
I found the home of a soldier once I could see clearly,
The soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone,
curled up on the floor in this one bedroom home,
The face was so gentle, the room in such disorder,
not how I pictured a United States soldier,
Was this the hero of whom I'd just read?,
curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed?,
I realized the families that I saw this night,
owed their lives to these soldiers who were willing to fight,
Soon round the world the children would play,
and grown ups would celebrate a bright Christmas day,
They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year,
because of the soldiers like the one lying here,
I couldn't help but wonder how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home,
The very thought brought a tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees and started to cry,
The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice,
"Santa don't cry, this life is my choice,
I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more,
my life is my God, my country, my Corps."
The soldier rolled over and drifted to sleep,
I couldn't control it I continued to weep,
I kept watch for hours so silent and still,
and we both shivered from the cold night's chill,
I didn't want to leave on that cold dark night,
this gaurdian of honor so willing to fight,
Then the soldier rolled over with a voice soft and pure,
whispered, "Carry on Santa, its Christmas day, all is secure,"
One look at my watch and I knew he was right,"Merry Christmas my friend and to all a good night."

She Was Only 5

Her Dad was a drunk and her Mom was an addict,
Her parents kept her locked in the attic,
Her only friend was a little toy bear,
It was old and worn out and had patches of hair,
She always talked to it when no one was around,
She'd lay there and hug it not a peep of sound,
Until her parents unlocked the door,
Some more and more pain she'll have to endure,
A bruise of her leg and a scar on her face,
Why would she be in such a horrible place,
But she grabs her bear and softly cries,
She loves her parents but they want her to die,
She sits in the corner quiet by thinking,
"Please God, why is my life sinking?",
Such a bad life for a sad little kid,
She'd get beaten and beaten for anything she did,
Then one night her Mom came home high,
And the poor child was beaten as hours went by,
Then her Mom suddenly grabbed for a blade,
It was sharp and pointy one that she made,
She thrusted the blade right into her chest,
"You deserve to die you worthless piece of shit!",
The Mom walked out leaving the girl slowly dieing,
She grabbed her bear and again started crying,
Police showed up at the small little house,
They quickly barged in everything quiet as a mouse,
One officer slowly opened a door,
To find the little girl dead on the floor,
It must have been bad to go through so much harm,
But at least she died with her best friend in her arms.

If after reading this poem there is not a tear in your eye, then God be with you because you have no heart! Please help stop child abuse! It is a serious problem in America!

Walk A Little Slower Daddy

"Walk a little slower, Daddy,"
said a child so small,
"I'm following in your footsteps Daddy
and I don't want to fall,
Sometimes they're hard to see
and sometimes they're very fast,
So walk a little slower Daddy,
for you are leading me,

Someday when I'm all grown up,
you're what I want to be,Then I will have a small child,Who'll want to follow me,And I would want to lead just right,And know that I was true,So walk a little slower Daddy,For I must follow you."
